The perfect cabin in the woods.

$195/night

Our off-grid backcountry cabin is the perfect destination for experienced hikers, campers and backcountry explorers looking to find an exquisite cabin at the end of the trail. The cabin is elegantly equipped for a comfortable stay in the wild, with special design touches lovingly handmade and inspired by the natural surroundings. During your stay you’ll have hundreds of miles of untamed wilderness all to yourself, as well as a hand crafted wood burning sauna, natural sand beach, breathtaking lookouts, incredible natural caves, frequent moose sightings and best of all, complete solitude and silence. We understand if you never want to leave.

The journey.

In advance of your visit we’ll provide you with a detailed information package, including maps and tips on how to pack and prepare.
Your adventure starts 15km north of Northern Skies Resort, where you’ll turn off the main highway onto an unused logging road, park your vehicle at the trailhead, and gear up. From there you’ll embark on a beautiful two hour hike on a well marked, privately maintained trail that passes over rushing creeks and through enchanting forests. You’ll use the canoes we provide to paddle across two small remote lakes (no portaging is required). Your only company throughout your journey will be moose, loons and any other wild creatures you might catch a glimpse of.

“Everything about this place is amazing: the super cozy A-frame cabin where I had the best sleep I've had in ages, the sandy beach, shallow water and fire pit, mesmerizing views from the look-out, and milky quartz cave leading to a waterfall...I will definitely be back and feel so privileged to have had the opportunity to discover this paradise.”

The destination.

This sweet A frame cabin was hand crafted in 1984 by its original owners, and lovingly renovated from 2006 onward by its current owners. You’ll appreciate special touches like a four burner propane cooktop, Pacific Energy cast iron wood stove and a gorgeous live edge countertop and table made at the cabin from a huge white pine that was struck by lightning. The cabin can accommodate four adults between the upstairs loft and the the downstairs couch that folds out into a bed. There is no electricity or running water - we ask guests to bring their own candles for lighting and a large water jug is provided to gather water from the lake. The relaxing sauna can be used for bathing and the clean, cute outhouse has breathtaking view. Kids and dogs are very welcome.

“The cabin is beautifully crafted and the spot is paradise. I had the most relaxing time. Today’s children should experience life without electricity. I hope my teenage son remembers his candlelight evenings with his dad as I have similar memories with my dad. This was our second trip and we will definitely return again.”

The experience.

During your visit to the cabin you can take full advantage of having miles of untouched wilderness to yourself by hiking to nearby scenic lookouts, spelunking through an incredible natural cave, exploring the lake by canoe (moose sightings are very common), swimming and lounging on the beach, reading in the hammock and enjoying dining outdoors on the hand built cedar picnic table. End your days with a good steam in the wood-fired sauna followed by a refreshing jump in the lake. Enjoy camp fires late into the night under an amazing blanket of stars - no light pollution here!

“Unbelievable week spent in wilderness. Unspoiled beauty of the Canadian Shield where one can experience complete solitude but also the excitement of swimming at the base of waterfalls, hiking up to beautiful lookouts or truly unique caves. The kids did not want to leave at the end of the week.”

— Antoine, Backcountry Cabin Guest
